Purple tweed dress from Chanel’s Spring/Summer 1994 ready-to-wear runway show under the artistic direction of Karl Lagerfeld.
“The choices of Karen Mulder” noted Laetitia D'Ornano for Madame Figaro in April 1994, “After the runway shows, the celebrated top model chooses her seven favorite designers whom she models for. Pastels, whiteness and softness that highlight her blondeness. Voorburg is the name of her hometown in Holland; a land of and dunes where she grew up, pampered by an energetic mother and tax inspector father. Basketball, Voorburg is the name of her village in Holland, a land of plains and dunes where she grew up, pampered by an energetic mother and a tax inspector father. Basketball, swimming, school... When she was fourteen, Karen Mulder was forced to read "Candide" in our language. At fifteen, it was Kafka's "Metamorphosis". I never understood. Apparently the guy turned into a cockroach! Frankly, the teachers are exaggerating. Now let's get down to business".
"From the height of her 1.79 meters, Karen Mulder looks at the world with gaiety. This twenty-four-year-old pink candy has her feet on the ground even if she sometimes seems ready to fly away. You only have to see her fluttering in a pastel Alaïa suit between the other models dressed in black leather. Grunge fashion is not for her; she prefers the tomboy look and classic outfits but sexy that beautify women. I love shopping and, in the morning, getting dressed puts me in a good mood. The only time I was stopped at customs was to ask for my phone number! Between two sips of Badoit, she suddenly seems pensive: "Can we continue in English?" The beauty is tired and doesn't reveal anything about her private life. She finally admits that she likes them not necessarily handsome but full of charm and preferably Latin: "The kind of man you don't notice in a room but who turns out to be irresistible after a five-minute conversation!" When she speaks on the phone to the man of her life, her voice softens to the point of becoming a mere whisper. "I love you, je t'aime," concludes the conversation. She regrets always being separated from her Labrador, the only dog I'm not afraid of." Karen appreciates pretty settings, friends gathered at her home in Monte Carlo. It's my Dutch homebody side. The modeling job she has been doing for seven years has taught her lots of things. "I even went brunette for two weeks. People grumbled, they thought my character was changing. I prefer myself as a blonde. And so do we.”
