“From 1973 to 2002, under his eponymous label, Mugler turned out one fantastical and jaw-dropping collection after another.”, noted Sarah Powless for CR Fashion Book in 2022. “I made clothes because I was looking for something that didn’t exist. I had to create my own world.”, Mugler once said. “And create his own world he certainly did. From 1973 to 2002, under his eponymous label, Mugler turned out one fantastical and jaw-dropping collection after another. With dozens of outrageously sculptural, gilded, and voluminous looks, Mugler transformed his runways into high-octane dream worlds and, in doing so, established himself as the foremost couturier the fashion world has ever seen.” “In his near thirty-year tenure at the helm of his house, Mugler defined what it meant to create a fantasy out of fashion. Each of his haute couture collections transported viewers to a new, distinct world where the garments were undoubtedly fabulous and the women were strong, Amazon-like goddesses.” “Simply put, Mugler was not just a master of couture, but a master of fantasy. The shows he put on were high theatre and, through outrageous and glamorous looks, brought the audience to new, more fashionable worlds each season. With a commitment to honoring the strength and power of women, Mugler raised the bar not only on what fashion could be, but what it should be. Although there will almost certainly never be another fashion genius quite like him again, we can no-doubt honor his legacy by bringing his long-missed pension for fantasy back to the runway.”
Vogue photographed Karen Mulder looking like a million bucks in the designer’s artfully styled aforementioned corseted jacket and skirt, matching black and red piped leather gloves and ankle boots worn in combination with a number of the silver-colored accessories that appeared with headline-making profusion on the runway.
